Our vineyards
The Scarpello vineyards, located in the heart of Salento, is an authentic custodian of Puglia’s winemaking tradition. With a deep respect for the land and a passion for viticulture, the winery manages four distinct vineyards, each with unique characteristics and a fascinating history. Each vineyard is a microcosm reflecting the diversity of our landscape and winemaking practices. The vineyards of Perrone, Cona, Morigine and Caretta not only represent a richness in terms of the extent and variety of grape varieties, but also a commitment to quality and innovation. The diverse soil compositions, pruning techniques and meticulous care of the plants allow us to produce wines that best express the potential of this generous land.

Perrone
It is the largest of the four estates belonging to the Scarpello group, with approximately 36 hectares of vineyards cultivating the main indigenous varieties such as Negroamaro and Primitivo, as well as Chardonnay, an internationally widespread variety found in Salento. With a density of about 5000 plants per hectare, the estate is named after one of the historic masserie surrounding San Pancrazio Salentino, which was once inhabited by Basilian monks. It is located along the ancient road connecting San Pancrazio to Mesagne, dating back to the period between 1200 and 1300. The soils, mainly clayey with a composition of 30% sand, 30% silt, and 40% clay, offer good water permeability and are rich in nutrients, allowing for the production of wines with great structure and minerality.

Cona
With approximately 23 hectares of vineyards and a density of 5040 plants per hectare, this is the second-largest estate of the Scarpello company. Located about 500 meters from the center of San Pancrazio Salentino, it is named after an old medieval masseria. The estate mainly hosts indigenous varieties such as Primitivo and Negroamaro. The soils exhibit a varied texture, with sand, silt, and clay evenly distributed and a strong presence of limestone due to proximity to tuff quarries. This, combined with the adoption of the Guyot pruning system, contributes to the production of more aromatic wines with higher acidity.

Caretta
It is the most recent property acquired by the Scarpello company, located near the Sanctuary of Sant’Antonio, a place of worship visited by tourists that preserves traces of the presence of Eastern monastic communities in San Pancrazio Salentino. On the 7 hectares of land, of which 2 are currently planted with Negroamaro, there is an old cottage between two centuries-old pines that inspired the company logo. The slightly elevated position of the vineyards provides proper aeration, essential for the development and ripening of the grapes.

Morigine
The lands located in Contrada Morigine are a fundamental resource for the San Pancrazio Salentino area, having always been cultivated with vineyards and included in the DOC Salice zone, one of the most important DOCs in Southern Italy. The vines planted in this area, Malvasia Bianca and Negroamaro, are about 30 years old and are pruned using the Guyot system. The soils, with a significant clay component, influence drainage capacity and water retention. The vineyard planting is done with a spacing of 2.2 meters by 1.3 meters, with approximately 3500 plants per hectare.
